Each canoe is 100% hand-built using the plank-on-frame construction method, which closely resembles the building of actual ships. Every model demands many hours to complete and must undergo a rigorous quality control process before leaving the workshop. The Hawaiian outrigger canoe is just one of the hundreds of outrigger types found throughout the Oceania region, which includes Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. The stabilizing framework, attached to the canoe hull using traditional lashing techniques with cordage, consists of two iako or spars, to which the ama or float is connected at the outer ends.
