Gold Armillary Sphere On A Chrome Base

An armillary sphere is the instrument astronomers used to map the sky before telescopes, a nest of rings standing for the equator, the tropics, and the path of the sun. This one keeps the look and turns it into a desk piece.

Polished gold-tone rings sit one inside the other, engraved with fine graduated scales, and a small chrome globe hangs at the center on an axis pin that runs right through the sphere. The whole thing is mounted on a stepped chrome plinth with real weight to it.

It reads as serious rather than decorative, so it suits a desk, a study shelf or a bookcase beside hardbacks.
