Vintage Wooden And Brass Hourglass 5 minutes

An hourglass built into a turned wooden frame with three aged brass posts and brass finials on top. The wood is warm and heavily grained, and the brass has been darkened rather than polished bright.

The band running around the top and bottom rims carries the old line about patience, engraved in capitals: A THOUSAND MILE JOURNEY BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP. You read it by turning the piece in your hands, which is rather the point. A small brass plaque set into the top disc adds a short verse and the date 1947.

It is a desk-sized piece, and the sand runs clean and even. Turn it over and start again.
