Saint Michael Weighing Souls

In the older paintings Michael is not fighting anything. He is standing still with a set of scales, weighing a soul against a feather, and whatever the scales say is final. That is the moment this piece takes.

His wings sweep up behind him almost the full height of the figure, and the scales hang from one hand on fine sculpted chains. At 11 1/8 inches it is the tallest in this group and built to be the thing a shelf is arranged around.
